How Energy is Transferred Through a Wave and How it Impacts the Natural Disasters
The total energy released by the breaking waves in a particular swell represents the total energy transferred from the original low pressure system through the wind blowing on the sea surface and a combination of wind, ocean currents, moon and tide subsequent, less loss of energy such as drag on ocean floor, open ocean waves breakage, or moon, tide, and currents working against swell direction. All of which represents a total amount of energy inherent in the swell give or take a little in the form of swell marching towards the coast. An earthquake is an unpredictable event in which masses of rock shift below Earth's surface, releasing enormous amounts of energy and sending out shock waves that sometimes cause the ground to shake dramatically. These plates constantly move slowly across the surface of Earth, bumping into each other, overrunning eachother and pulling away from each other. The released pressure also causes the ground-shaking vibrations associated with an earthquake. Earth experiences more than one million earthquakes a year. The vast majority of these measure 3.4 or below on the Richter scale and cannot be felt by people. The planet never ceases to vibrate with the motion of its tectonic forces.
